Krishna rules out early Assembly polls in K'taka Monday, January 19 2004 12:35 Hrs (IST) Bangalore:
Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna today (Jan 19, 2004) virtually ruled out the possibility going in for early Assembly elections in the State simultaneously with Lok Sabha polls.
"Elections are round the corner for Lok Sabha. In September, we are going to have one more elections," he said at the inauguration of senior police officers convention.
Asked if he meant September elections for the State Assembly, Krishna replied, "Naturally."
Asked if he is ruling out the possibility of early elections in the State, he declined to elaborate, "You heard my speech. You can draw your own conclusions...inference."
Queried whether he discussed the issue of timing of Assembly elections with Congress leadership in Delhi, Krishna said that he discussed the political situation substantially in the State.
Asked to be more specific on early elections, the Chief Minister said, "I don't think I can be more specific than what I was in my speech. I reached my optimum capacity in expressing."
There had been speculation in Karnataka in recent weeks on the State Government's move regarding holding early polls ever since indications emerged on advancing of Lok Sabha elections.
