Bangalore: The Special Court trying the fake stamp paper scam cases, adjourned to January 28 a plea by the prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi, seeking bail and also parole to visit his ailing mother and wife and removal of cameras in his prison cell.

The Judge, A T Manoli, also further remanded Telgi to judicial custody till February 10.

Meanwhile, the judge allowed Andhra Pradesh police to take custody of Syed Waheed, an accused in the scam, for interrogation for 10 days.

Telgi's counsel M T Nanaiah, speaking to reporters outside the Parappanahara Agrahara jail on the city outskirts, quoted Telgi as saying that he has no links with politicians.

Nanaiah said a Special Investigation Team (SIT) from Pune interrogated Telgi on Saturday (Jan 17, 2004) and the latter denied links with certain politicians, when questioned by them.

He claimed that 14 independent tests had confirmed that Telgi was HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) positive. There was a slight improvement in Telgi's health condition, Nanaiah added.

Telgi has sought removal of cameras in his cell, maintaining that it interfered with his privacy. According to Nanaiah, Telgi has said there is no threat to his life inside or outside of jail.
