Hijacked bus rescued in Assam, passengers safe

Nalbari: A night bus from Guwahati to Siliguri which was hijacked by dacoits at gun point was recovered by the police with the passengers safe, though their valuables have been robbed, police said.

The dacoits took away the private bus under Assam State Road Transport operation around 8 pm along with the 50 passengers from National Highway 31 at Sunamati in Nalbari district.

Another bus, which was following the hijacked one, noticed that the bus suddenly turned towards unscheduled Namkarphaira area suspecting something amiss, they informed police.

Police immediately rushed to the area and recovered the bus along with the passengers.

The dacoits, who looted gold ornaments, cash and other valuable from the passengers, however, fled away on arrival of police, the sources added.
