N Gopalaswami named new Election Commissioner

New Delhi: Home Secretary N Gopalaswami was today (Jan 21, 2004) appointed Election Commissioner (EC).

A Gujarat-cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of 1966 batch, Gopalaswami will assume the charge of EC with effect from February 8 against the vacancy caused by the proposed assumption of charge by T S Krishnamurthy as Chief Election Commissioner on that day, a press communique said announcing his appointment.
