Hurriyat to adopt 2-pronged strategy in talks Wednesday, January 21 2004 23:11 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Terming tomorrow's (Jan 22, 2004) meeting with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani as a "breakthrough", Hurriyat Conference today (Jan 21, 2004) said it would adopt a two-pronged strategy comprising steps towards resolution of Kashmir issue and bringing some "relief" to the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
"We will be adopting a two-pronged strategy - discussing resolution-oriented steps for finding solution to the vexed Kashmir and bringing some relief to the people of the State," former Hurriyat Conference chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq said.
Mirwaiz is part of the five-member Hurriyat delegation, which will hold the first-ever meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister tomorrow. The amalgam team is led by its chairman Maulana Abbas Ansari with Abdul Gani Bhat, Fazal-ul-Haq Qureshi and Bilal Lone as its other members.
However, he did not spell these measures saying, "Such things need to be kept for the discussion table."
"We are not expecting a decision tomorrow itself. But at least the process has begun...it is indeed a breakthrough in the recent turbulent times of the history of Kashmir," Mirwaiz said.
He said the process should go on and "if the Centre shows some seriousness, the Hurriyat Conference will extend all co-operation. We have come with hope and we sincerely want to further the peace process between India and Pakistan that has been started in Islamabad."
Mirwaiz advocated a step-by-step approach in finding ways and means for solving the Kashmir issue.
