Stamp scam: Tabrez gets police custody till Feb 3 Wednesday, January 21 2004 17:17 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
Tabrez Telgi, accused in the fake stamp paper scam and nephew of principal accused Abdul Karim Telgi, was today (Jan 21, 2004) remanded to police custody till February 3 in a case registered by Mulund police against him.
He was arrested in Pune yesterday in Mulund fake stamp paper case and produced before a Magistrate's court in Mumbai today for remand.
Tabrez was earlier arrested by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) at Pune on January 3.
The SIT yesterday procured a transfer warrant for Tabrez from the special MCOCA court in Pune and moved him to Mumbai today.
The SIT pleaded for the police custody of Tabrez in the Mulund fake stamps case on the ground that investigation in this case was pending.
The fake stamps case, in which Tabrez Telgi was arrested by SIT, is among the 16 cases registered by Mumbai Police against Abdul Karim Telgi in various parts of the city since 1995.
