2 top Hizb ultras surrender, 2 hideouts busted in JK Thursday, January 22 2004 16:38 Hrs (IST) Jammu:
Two top militants belonging to pro-Pakistan militant outfit Hizbul Mujahideen today (Jan 22, 2004) surrendered in Udhampur district and security forces destroyed two terrorist hideouts in Jammu and Kashmir leading to recovery of arms and ammunition since last night, official sources said today.
A self-styled Hizb company commander codenamed 'Janbaz' and another ultra identified as Asif Bhai, surrendered before police in Mahore area of Udhampur district, they said.
They also handed over two AK rifles, six magazines, 240 rounds, seven handgrenades, two wireless sets, two pistols, 12 rounds, two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to police, they said.
They had been active in the Udhampur-Doda belt during the past six years after receiving training in Pakistan, the sources said.
The security forces busted a hideout in Banihal area of Doda district today and recovered one AK rifle, one magazine, 230 rounds, remote controlled IEDs, two radio sets, six timer devices, two binoculars, 200 kgs of ration and Rs 59,500 in Indian currency, the sources said.
In another operation, security forces busted the hideout in Surankote of Poonch district last night and recovered 10 IEDs, 200 rounds of AK rifle, one magazine, one UBGL grenade, 21 grenades and 650 kgs of assorted ration last night, the sources said.
