India wants lasting peace with Pak: Vajpayee Thursday, January 22 2004 20:16 Hrs (IST) Pandharpur (Maharashtra):
Expressing India's desire of sincerely adhering to the renewed peace process with Pakistan, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Jan 22, 2004) said efforts were on to ensure lasting peace between the two neighbouring countries.
Highlighting the achievements of his Government in last five years, Vajpayee addressing a mammoth rally on Chandrabhaga ground in this temple town said, "We have ensured peace and security in the country.
"Cannons are not booming on borders and morale of infiltrators has been defeated," Vajpayee said.
The Army personnel were guarding the country's border and India believes in ensuring lasting peace with its neighbour, he said, referring to Pakistan.
Vajpayee said there was a possibility of Lok Sabha polls and people have an opportunity to decide the performance of his Government.
The Prime Minister appealed all political parties to sink political differences and make concerted efforts to make India achieve the superpower status soon.
Claiming that the entire world was taking note of India's achievements, Vajpayee said the country has made rapid progress on the economic front.
He said the Centre's efforts are to ensure security and peace in the country and process of delivering justice to downtrodden be speeded up.
"We have to take bigger strides to surge ahead in the world," he exhorted the countrymen.
