Militants kill woman in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: Militants today (Jan 24, 2004) killed a woman accusing her of being an informer and seriously wounded her son-in-law in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said.

A group of militants barged into the house of Gulfam Begum in village Gunthal near Surankote forests of Poonch district early today and tortured her and her son-in-law, Ashraf, the sources said.

They inflicted injuries on them with sharp-edged weapons before shooting the woman dead.

Ashraf was in a serious condition in hospital.

The sources said a combing operation has been launched in the area to track down the militants.
