Opting for State polls in tandem with Lok Sabha elections, the Karnataka Assembly is most likely to be dissolved by February 8, KPCC (Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee) President B Janardhan Poojary said today (Jan 25, 2004).
On February 5, (State) Budget would be presented and an vote on account taken by Jan 8, a recommendation would be made to dissolve the Assembly, he told reporters in Bangalore asserting that the ruling Congress in the state was preparing for the elections.
Asked how certain he was about dissolution, he said, "99 per cent".
Poojary said according to his "reliable information", the Lok Sabha polls would be held in the last week of March and the election process would be completed in the first week of April.
He also noted that there was a move to hold simultaneous elections in eight States, including Karnataka.
"We are preparing for it (the simultaneous elections)," he said.
Chief Minister S M Krishna has already had consultations with party MPs on holding simultaneous elections early this week, with a majority of members favouring holding of polls together.
