Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee's grand-nephew was killed after being thrown out of a running train near Kosikalan in Uttar Pradesh's Mathura district, a police spokesman said in Lucknow today (Jan 26, 2004).
Manish Mishra, the grandson of Vajpayee's sister Vimla Mishra, died of injuries sustained after he was thrown out of the Chhattisgarh Express by some youth when he tried to prevent them from teasing girls travelling in the general compartment last night (Jan 25), he said.
Manish and his two friends were returning to Kosikalan when they saw some youth, allegedly from Meerut, teasing some girls, the spokesman said, adding they intervened and an altercation ensued between them.
The youth, allegedly in inebriated state, roughed up Mishra before throwing him and his two friends out of the running train, the spokesman said.
Police were informed in the morning when some villagers found Mishra, who had died of injuries, and one of his friends lying near the tracks. The injured was admitted to a hospital where his condition was stated to be serious. There was no information about the other friend, he said.
Mishra was a B Sc student of in the BSA College in Mathura, the spokesman said. His father Mahendra Mishra is an employee in the Jindal Pipe Factory in the Kosikalan
Industrial area, he said.
Police have registered a case and efforts were on to trace the culprits, the spokesman said.
