New Delhi: Congress today (Jan 27, 2004) lashed out at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its reported comment that only those born of Indian people should become the Prime Minister and said the saffron party was "scared" of Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Rahul Gandhi.

"The only result of this comment is that they are scared. They are so scared of a young boy and young girl, that they have started talking things like this," Congress general secretary Ambika Soni told reporters a day after BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan made a remark in this regard.

Questioning Mahajan's locus standi to comment on who should be the Prime Minister, Soni said the BJP leader's observations are not being taken seriously.

"Who is Pramod Mahajan? What is his standing? Does he get to decide for the crores of people of this country who should do what? Is there anyone in this country who takes these comments seriously?" Soni asked.
