Russia is for developing result-oriented multifaceted strategic ties with India, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Boris Alyoshin has said.
Cooperation in defence, energy, machine-building and cutting-edge technologies would be the priorities in developing bilateral strategic interaction, he told reporters at the Republic Day reception hosted by Indian Ambassador K Raghunath yesterday (Jan 26, 2004).
"This year we have plans for intensive exchange of visits to further advance our strategic partnership in priority spheres," he said.
Alyoshin, who looks after Russia's defence industries, science and technology, has been appointed co-chairman of Indo-Russian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation (IRIGC).
From the Indian side, IRIGC is co-chaired by External Affairs Minister Yashwant Sinha.
Concurrently, Alyoshin is to co-preside over the Indo-Russian Inter-Governmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation, headed by Defence Minister George Fernandes.
Both commissions are scheduled to meet later this year in New Delhi ahead of Russian President Vladimir Putin's India visit, he said.
