Srinagar: Militants shot dead five persons, including three women, and injured a security jawan in separate attacks in Jammu and Kashmir, a police spokesman said today (Jan 27, 2004).

A 24-year-old girl identified as Hafeeza was gunned down by militants inside her house at Yachgoosh-Keller village in Pulwama district of South Kashmir this morning.

Militants also intruded into the house of one Faqi Mohammad at Majra Bambal village in Rajouri district last night (Jan 26) and fired indiscriminately on his wife Nazira Bi, killing her, the spokesman said.

Another woman Atra Bi was killed and a security jawan injured when militants opened fire on a security patrol at Malhann village in Poonch district last night (Jan 26), the spokesman said adding security forces fired back but the ultras managed to flee.

Militants also struck Batakote village of Rajwar in frontier district of Kupwara and dragged out two youths, Mushtaq Ahmad Wani and Bashir Ahmad Bhat from their houses and fired upon them killing one and seriously injuring the other.

Bhat later succumbed to injuries, he said adding militants suspected them to be informers of security forces.

In an anti-militant operation, the spokesman said security forces busted a militant hideout at Kishtwar in Doda district and recovered two .303 rifles, two magazines, one AK bayonet, 42 rounds, two rifle grenades and two hand grenades.
