Pradeep Sawant, Mulani's custody extended till Feb 9 Tuesday, January 27 2004 19:26 Hrs (IST) Pune:
The magisterial custody remand of the Deputy Commissioner of Mumbai Police Pradeep Sawant, arrested in connection with the multi-crore fake stamp paper racket was today (Jan 27, 2004) extended till February 9 by the local court in Pune.
The remand was extended by the Judicial Magistrate First Class K P Shrikhande as the magisterial custody of Sawant expired today. However, he was not produced in the court.
Sawant, a high profile police officer, who spearheaded the encounter squad of Mumbai, was arrested on January 7 under stringent law of Maharashtra for allegedly shielding the prime accused Abdul Karim Telgi.
In a related development, the magisterial custody of the suspended Assistant Commissioner of Pune police M C Mulani was also extended till February 9.
Mulani, who was produced before the court on expiry of his magisterial custody remand filed an application in the court praying that he may be taken for check-up at the Sasoon
General Hospital every fortnight.
In his application, Mulani said he was suffering from diabetes and that a few days back had fallen down and had sustained injuries.
The court took application on record and asked the jail authorities to file a report about the medical condition of Mulani.
Meanwhile, the same court also extended the magisterial custody of Babban Tukaram Rajane, retired deputy superintendent of Stamps Mumbai till February 9. He is accused of having failed to take action against three firms of Telgi deliberately.
