'Bihar with 'rakshas raj'; a fit case for dismissal' Tuesday, January 27 2004 18:51 Hrs (IST) Thiruvananthapuram:
Defending Bihar Governor Rama Jois's critical comments on the law and order situation in Bihar, BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) president M Venkaiah Naidu today (Jan 27, 2004) said the State was a fit case for the use of Article 356 and expressed hope that the Governor would send a report to the Centre on the situation in the State.
"It is a fit case for Article 356. I hope he will send a recommendation to the Centre and also to the President," Naidu told a press meet in Thiruvananthapuram.
Holding that Congress owed an explanation to the people for the continuance of the Rabri Devi Government, Naidu said the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government on its own was not going to make any recommendation as it was not in a position to get the Parliamentary approval.
Asked whether he thought it was proper on the part of the Governor to have openly criticised an elected Government, Naidu said he (the Governor) was pained by what he had seen and that he did not make any personal allegations.
Terming the governance in the State as 'rakshas raj', he said BJP would take to the people the issue and expose the "Bihar model' and the support Congress was extending to it.
"People of Bihar are not at fault. The rulers are to be blamed for the situation," he added.
