Hurriyat wants to play role of bridge between India, Pak Wednesday, January 28 2004 13:53 Hrs (IST) Srinagar:
The Hurriyat Conference has convened a special meeting tomorrow (Jan 29, 2004) to brief the constituents of the separatist amalgam about the headway made in New Delhi and ratify the joint communique that was issued after the first round of talks with the Centre.
All the constituents of the conglomerate, led by Maulana Abbas Ansari, have been invited to the joint session of the executive council, working committee and general council of the grouping, Hurriyat sources said today.
While Hurriyat chairman Ansari returned here on Sunday immediately after the end of the talks, four other constituents of the five-member delegation to the meeting were likely to return later today.
Ansari said the meeting has been convened to inform the members about the progress made in the talks with the Centre.
"We want to give detailed briefing to our members about the outcome of the dialogue with the Centre. We will apprise them about everything that happened in New Delhi and put at rest rumours that are being floated," he said.
A confident Ansari said the talks with the Central leaders have been very successful and can lead to a solution to the Kashmir issue.
"We will take our constituents into confidence because they had nominated the team that held the discussions with the Centre," Ansari said.
Hurriyat sources said tomorrow's meeting will also be used to ratify the stand of conglomerate and the joint statement issued at the end of the meeting with Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani.
Ansari also welcomed Pakistan Government's decision to allow them (Hurriyat leaders) to visit the country.
"It is very good news and we welcome it," Ansari said, reacting to Pakistan's statement that it has no objection to Hurriyat leaders led by him visiting the country.
He said Hurriyat wants to play the role of a bridge between India and Pakistan to resolve the Kashmir issue.
Hurriyat Conference, which held talks with the Centre last week, has expressed its desire to visit Pakistan to hold talks with Kashmiri militants based there to find a peaceful resolution.
