New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president M Venkaiah Naidu was today (Jan 28, 2004) unanimously re-elected for a full three-year term, which will be ratified at the National Council meeting on February 6.

Announcing this at a press conference, O P Kohli, Returning Officer for the party presidential elections, said, "There was only one name and no other candidate for the post."

He said the formal announcement on Naidu's re-election would be made at the National Council meeting of the party on February 6.

The National Council meeting would be followed by a convention of leading party activists from all over the country, including MPs and MLAs.

Naidu was elected BJP president in the summer of 2002, taking over the post from Jana Krishnamurthy.

Kohli said the BJP Parliamentary Party had proposed Naidu's name, which had also been proposed by all the 14 State units.
