It's tough to trust Cong going by its history: PM
Wednesday, January 28 2004 17:41 Hrs (IST)

Dehra Dun: Making a frontal attack on Congress for its attempts to sew up an anti-NDA (National Democratic Alliance) alliance to fight the coming Lok Sabha polls, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Jan 28, 2004) said that it was difficult to trust Congress going by its past record in backing coalition Governments.

"The Congress had earlier declared that it would not go for coalition but now it is making efforts to join hands with others. It is difficult to trust Congress. Its past record shows that it had backtracked on its support to coalition Governments leading to change of Prime Ministers in a short span of six months."

"For coalition politics, what is needed is trust and honesty," Vajpayee said addressing a public meeting.

Recalling that when his Government was formed, it was said that it would not last long. But it was his Government, which brought political stability, development and progress in the country during the past four and half years, he said.

The country, which was earlier importing food grains, was not only self-sufficient now but was exporting commodities to different parts of the world, he said, adding that nobody would be allowed to die of starvation in the country.
