BJP's feel-good factor claim hollow: Congress Thursday, January 29 2004 19:47 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Driving home the point that the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s "India Shining campaign" and its claim of "feel-good factor" was "hollow", Congress today (Jan 29, 2004) said five days had passed since the killing of Prime Minister's nephew in a railway compartment in Uttar Pradesh and the culprits were still traceless.
This was one of many incidents, including the rape of a foreign diplomat in the capital, that had taken place recently, party spokesman S Jaipal Reddy told reporters.
"I have pointed out this incident to say how hollow is the claim of BJP when it talks about the feel-good factor and India Shining campaign," Reddy said.
"What has happened to Vajpayee's nephew is a sad comment on the state of safety and security in Railways," he said, wanting to know from BJP whether the failure to nab the culprits was the latest illustration of the India Shining campaign or the feel-good factor.
Replying to a question, Reddy said law and order was a State subject but the current incident involving PM's nephew was fully under the purview of the Railways.
Rejecting the suggestion that he was trying to protect the Samajwadi Party Government in UP which his party was supporting, Reddy said the State Government was also involved.
He, however, expressed heartfelt condolences to the Prime Minister and other members of the bereaved family.
