Special session of LS adjourns after obituary references
Thursday, January 29 2004 11:58 Hrs (IST)

New Delhi: A special session of the Lok Sabha convened to approve the vote-on-account ahead of the dissolution of the House on February 6 was today (Jan 29, 2004) adjourned for the day after it met briefly to condole the death of a sitting and two former members and pay homage to the victims of the recent earthquake in Iran.

As soon as the House assembled for the day, Opposition members were on their legs raising several issues including Uttar Pradesh Government's decision to abolish nine districts in the State and to do away with customary President's address to Parliament on the opening day of the first session of the new year.

They, however, resumed their seats after the Speaker began reading obituary references.

The agitated members were again on their feet after the House observed a minute's silence in memory of the departed souls, but the Speaker adjourned the House for the day.

This five-day session is being treated as part of the winter session, which had concluded on December 23, 2003.
