Four CRPF jawans killed in firing among themselves

Agartala: In a drunken orgy, CRPF (Central Reserve Police Force) jawans exchanged fire in a barrack of battalion 68 at Rajanisardapara in West Tripura district, resulting in the death of four jawans early today (Jan 30, 2004). The police said the sentry of the camp had a hot argument with some jawans over an unknown reason in the early hours and opened fire. All of them were drunk.

Three head constables and one constable were injured grievously in the fire. The sentry was also injured in retaliatory fire by the jawans.

The injured were taken to the nearest Kalyanpur hospital under Khowai sub-division of the district, but the doctors declared the four as brought dead.

The sentry is being treated in a hospital. His condition is stated to be serious.

Top officials of CRPF and State police have rushed to the spot. The bodies were sent for post-mortem.
