Kerala crisis: Murali offers to quit as KPCC chief Friday, January 30 2004 19:35 Hrs (IST) Thiruvananthapuram:
Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president K Muraleedharan has reportedly expressed willingness to quit as PCC chief as part of patch-up efforts to settle problems in the Kerala unit of the Congress, according to party sources.
Meanwhile, Muraleedharan told reporters this evening (Jan 30, 2004) that he had faxed a message to the high command, the contents of which he could not disclose.
Asked whether he had put in his papers, he said, "I cannot disclose the details. I am still the PCC president."
KPCC chief, however, said he was prepared to accept any formula proposed by the All India Congress Committee (AICC) president and the high command.
Muraleedharan is likely to be inducted into the Cabinet as part of a settlement formula being worked out by the high command and Chief Minister A K Antony.
Efforts are also on to dissuade senior leader K Karunakaran from taking any hasty step to break away from the party, sources said.
