Nation pays homage to Mahatma on his anniversary

New Delhi: President A P J Abdul Kalam, Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat and Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Jan 30, 2004) led the nation in paying tributes to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi on his 57th martyrdom day.

Kalam, Vajpayee, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani, Manohar Joshi, Congress president Sonia Gandhi paid floral tributes at Rajghat, the 'samadhi' of the apostle of peace.

Defence Minister George Fernandes and chiefs of the three services were also among a host of dignitaries who visited Rajghat to pay their floral tributes.

An all-religion prayer was also held at the samadhi on the occasion.
