Guntur: Police arrested seven People's War Group (PWG-CPI-ML) naxals, while two bodyguards of a Congress legislator were killed and three others received bullet injuries in naxalites violence today (Feb 2, 2004) in Andhra Pradesh.

The naxals arrested were members of the PWG Village Protection Force of Kothuru and Veldurthy villages in Guntur district and involved in the killing of Ramakoti Nayak by triggering bombs fastened to his waist on January 16, police said.

Two hundred gelatine sticks and some revolutionary literature were also recovered from a dump following the arrest, police added.

In another incident, two bodyguards of a Congress legislator were killed and three others received bullet injuries when People's War Group (PWG) naxals opened fire in a meeting at Kolhapur in Mahabubnagar district.

The shocking incident took place when Congress MLA Krishna Reddy was holding a meeting with workers at party office at Kolhapur, Mahabubnagar police told reporters.

When the meeting was on, two armed naxals, who mingled with party workers, suddenly stood up and opened fire at two constables killing them on the spot and injuring three party activists, they said.

Before the workers recovered from the shock, the naxals fled the place in the melee, police said.

The injured Congress activists were admitted to Kurnool government hospital.

The deceased constables deputed on security duty were identified as H Naik and Venkat Reddy, police said.
