Budget: Govt committed to second green revolution Tuesday, February 3 2004 12:35 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Finance Minister Jaswant Singh today (Feb 3, 2004) presented the Interim Budget for 2004-05 in the Lok Sabha.
Singh said the Government was committed to second green revolution, employment generation, eradication of poverty and fiscal consolidation.
Growth figures in the current year are encouraging. GDP (Gross domestic Product) growth is expected to be 7.5 to 8 per cent in the current fiscal year, the Finance Minister said.
This level of growth is a matter of great satisfaction, Singh said.
Declining interest and buoyant Stock Exchange have set the economy moving.
Under the Prime Minister's Swastha Suraksha Yojana six hospitals -- one each in Andhra Pradesh, J and K, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Jharkhand and Uttaranchal -- will be upgraded to the level of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Singh said.
