FIR against Laloo's nephew over extortion charges

Patna: Police have filed an FIR (First Information Report) against RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) supremo Laloo Prasad Yadav's nephew, Nagendra Rai and his supporters in connection with a clash allegedly over demand for extortion in which three persons were injured in Rajabazar police station area in the State capital on Saturday night (Jan 31, 2004).

Police sources today (Feb 3, 2004) said the case was instituted at the Shastrinagar police station against Nagendra Rai and others on the basis of statement of the injured Zishan, Chhotu and Asharaf to the police yesterday (Feb 2, 2004) that Rai along with his gun-toting men attacked them when they were sitting on a dharna near a petrol pump to protest the demand for extortion and assault on their colleague Mohammed Firoz by RJD supporters.

The three received gun shot injuries when supporters of Rai opened fire on agitating businessmen, who also indulged in brick batting to protest the attack on Firoz by Rai's men allegedly for refusing to pay the extortion money angry businessmen had also blocked the vital Bailey Road linking Patna with Danapur for two days on Saturday and Sunday in protest.

Raids are on to apprehend Rai and his henchmen, sources said.
