Sonia accuses Vajpayee of 'changing' stands Wednesday, February 4 2004 14:17 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Getting into election gear, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Feb 04, 2004) targeted Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, accusing him of "changing" stands on a number of important issues like corruption, Gujarat massacre and India's relations with Pakistan.
"Vajpayee has been in public life for more than 50 years and he must remember Dev Anand-starrer 'Asli Nakli'," Gandhi said while initiating a discussion on the Interim Budget.
She said it was a "sorry state of affairs" that on most important issues the Prime Minister has "changed his stand".
"There is no clarity from him," she said.
Charging Vajpayee with "double-speak", she said while he asked political parties to exercise restraint during the election process, his own colleagues were doing just the opposite.
She said the Congress was committed to running the election campaign keeping in mind wishes of the people.
Dubbing the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) Government as "one of scams", she said this was evident in Defence deals, allotment of petrol pumps, share markets, UTI (Unit Trust of India), Tehelka cases and the Judeo cash-on-camera expose.
