Convert 'feel-good factor' into votes: PM to allies Thursday, February 5 2004 14:43 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
With the new entrant AIADMK (All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) in attendance at the NDA (National Democratic Alliance) meeting, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today (Feb 05, 2004) said that feel-good factor in favour of the coalition should now be converted into votes and exuded confidence that the alliance would be back in power with greater majority to rule for another five years.
Addressing the last meeting of the NDA Parliamentary party on the last day of the 13th Lok Sabha, he said his Government has shown how a coalition could be run successfully.
"We have set an example in this direction," he said.
Exuding confidence, he told the meeting that the members should highlight the achievements of the Government in all spheres ranging from economic, social and political.
The Prime Minister said even though the NDA Government's tenure is ending five months ahead of schedule, "we will rule for another five years".
Vajpayee appreciated Finance Minister Jaswant Singh for his Interim Budget, which he said gave benefits to all sections of society in the urban and rural areas and especially for the farmers and the agriculture labour.
Showering praise on Defence Minister George Fernandes who has been cleared by the Commission that probed Tehelka scam, Vajpayee said, "He (Fernandes) has acquired the glitter that gold gets after coming through fire."
He said during the last five years, the NDA Government had done a good job in all spheres and brought measures beneficial to all sections of society.
In areas like Defence, security and other related spheres too the Government had done a commendable job and thus had ensured better quality of life to all sections of society, he said.
The Prime Minister appreciated the work done by all his Cabinet colleagues, adding that Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj had done a commendable job.
NDA convener Fernandes, in a brief address, said that this was only a brief break before the next session and that he was confident that NDA would get a clear majority in the coming Lok Sabha elections.
