PW ultras blow up railway station in Bihar
Thursday, February 5 2004 11:29 Hrs (IST)

Gaya: Continuing their offensive for the third day running, armed People's War (PW) ultras blew up Gurari railway station on Gaya-Mughalsarai grandchord section of the East Central Railway in Bihar's Gaya district in the wee hours today (Feb 5, 2004).

Police said heavily-armed PW extremists stormed the station, asked the employees to vacate the station premises and triggered off the explosion to demolish the station building.

Rail traffic was disrupted for more than four hours on the vital section. Trains, however, resumed operation from this morning, police said.

Raids were being conducted at different places to arrest the extremists who also looted cash box during the attack. No railway employee was harmed.

This is the third major strike by the PW in Bihar during the past three days.

The station master of Pothi railway station in Bihar's Jehanabad district, Anil Kumar, was abducted by armed People's War activists who also locked the station office disrupting movement of trains for four hours on Patna-Gaya section of the East Central Railway yesterday, barely a day after they had kidnapped and released the station master of Nadaul station.

The naxalites are protesting against the arrest of their leader Mukesh alias Lal Das Mochi carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh at Masaurhi on Feb 3.
