Lanka's airport closed after Russian plane crash-lands

Colombo: Sri Lanka's only international airport in Colombo was closed today (Feb 5, 2004) after a Russian cargo plane made an emergency landing blocking the runway, an airport official said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

The airport was closed till 08:30 hrs (08:00hrs IST) and flights were being diverted, an official said.

Two Colombo-bound flights - Singapore-Colombo and the New Delhi-Colombo - made an emergency landing at Chennai airport.
