V P Singh, others had called Rajiv a 'thief': Sonia Thursday, February 5 2004 10:38 Hrs (IST) New Delhi:
Congress president Sonia Gandhi said today (Feb 04, 2004) those in the present Government, former Prime Minister V P Singh and leaders of all other political parties campaigned against her late husband Rajiv Gandhi calling him a thief on the basis of a forged account on the Bofors issue in 1989 and 1991 Lok Sabha polls.
"There were persons who were particularly responsible for this campaign and many of them are in Government. This very Government is the Government which dragged his name into the case where he was actually named in that infamous second column as an accused and a conspirator," she said in an interview to NDTV 24x7.
"This was something which not only V P Singh did but all other leaders of all parties did the same. They went around campaigning against my husband naming a farzi (forged) secret account, which never existed, saying that he was a thief and that he had taken money," she said.
