Six militants, jawan killed in J&K encounter

Srinagar: Six militants and a jawan were killed in an encounter in Bandipore area of Baramulla district today (Feb 06, 2004), a Defence spokesman said.

On a tip-off that militants were meeting at a hideout in Arigam village of the area, a search and destroy operation was launched by 10 Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry regiment last night (Feb 05, 2004) to flush out the ultras, Defence Spokesman Col. Dharamadhikari said.

A firefight broke out between the two sides and six militants were killed in the encounter, which was still going on.

One security force personnel was also killed during the encounter, he added.
