Kalam wonders whether India would be corruption-free Friday, February 6 2004 18:43 Hrs (IST) Chennai:
The responsibility of making a corruption-free society rests with the young generation of the country, President A P J Abdul Kalam said.
"When would India become corruption-free?" asked a student of a private engineering institution in Chennai. The President paused for a moment and wondered whether it would be possible.
However, he went on to add that only the young generation, their parents and the teachers who mould them at homes and in their schools as righteous citizens could make it happen.
He said corruption occurs when the leaders of the nation deviate from righteousness.
Responding to a series of questions from students of the Dr M G R Educational Research Institute during his interaction, Kalam wanted them to do courses on entrepreneurship and make themselves useful to the nation.
He said that India could certainly become a developed nation, provided it concentrated on cost effectiveness, quality and timely delivery of products and services in the emerging globalised scenario.
