Friday, February 6 2004 19:04 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Speaker of the dissolved Lok Sabha Manohar Joshi today (Feb 6, 2004) expressed regret for not being able to pass the Women's Reservation Bill and Lokpal Bill in the House.

"I feel sorry for not being able to pass the Women's Reservation Bill and the Lokpal Bill in the Lok Sabha," he told reporters after releasing the commemorative postal stamp in the honour of industrialist and Padma Bhushan awardee Late Dr B D Garware.

The Speaker said he also failed in controlling the members of the Lok Sabha from coming into the Well of the House.

"I always tried for smooth functioning of the House by urging the members to maintain discipline," he added.

"The day proceedings of the House goes on smoothly without any disturbance, it would be the best day of Parliament," he said.

Earlier, Joshi lauded Garware for his immense contribution to the country in the field of education and environment.
