Anil Baijal takes over as new Home Secretary

New Delhi: Senior Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Anil Baijal today (Feb 8, 2004) took over as new Home Secretary.

He succeeds N Gopalaswami, who has been appointed Election Commissioner.

Baijal, a 1969 batch officer of the UT cadre, was the vice chairman of Delhi Development Authority, before being appointed to this top post.

Earlier, he had headed the Indian Airlines as its chairman and managing director and worked as Additional Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and CEO (chief executive officer) of Prasar Bharati.

Baijal, who had also served in various capacities in the Delhi Government as well as the Chief Secretary of Andaman and Nicobar administration, was also the Councilor Incharge of India Aid Mission in Nepal.
