Samajwadi Party will not join any front: Mulayam Sunday, February 8 2004 14:55 Hrs (IST) Patna:
Samajwadi Party (SP) will not join any front but support parties committed to secularism in the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections, party general secretary Amar Singh said today (Feb 08, 2004).
"Samajwadi Party is not in favour of joining any Front. We will extend support to parties committed to secularism in the coming Parliamentary polls," Singh said in the presence of SP President and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav.
Asserting that SP was committed to secularism, Singh said, "Congress is supporting Mulayam Singh Yadav's Government in Uttar Pradesh. I participated in the luncheon meeting thrown by the Congress President Sonia Gandhi at Delhi despite presence of our political opponent Bahujan Samaj Party leader. We are with the secular parties but will not join any Front."
Yadav said he and other Samajwadi Party leaders would give more time in Bihar and other States to make the party stronger.
To a question whether SP will forge alliance with any party for polls in Bihar or go it alone, Yadav said it depended on the recommendations of the State unit of the party.
