Vajpayee Govt squandering tax payers money: DMK
Monday, February 9 2004 16:05 Hrs (IST)

Chennai: DMK (Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam) president, M Karunanidhi today (Feb 09, 2004) alleged that Vajpayee Government was squandering tax payers' money by releasing advertisements to papers in a bid to gain political mileage and to win the Lok Sabha elections.

"It is a pity that Vajpayee who was considered as Yudhishtira in protecting democracy is simply nodding his head to please BJP (Bharatiya Janata Party) men who are indulging in massive publicity campaign by releasing advertisements, wasting crores of rupees of tax payers money," he said in a statement.

He said even the new Chief Election Commissioner T S Krishna Murthy had stated that tax payers' money should not be spent to the electoral advantage of a particular political party.

Likening Vajpayee to Yudhishtira of Pandavas in Mahabharat he said even Yudhishtira was compelled to lie in a bid to defeat his guru Dhrona to win the war. Vajpayee is in the same situation now, he said.

He appealed to partymen not to fall prey to "False Campaign" that there were hitches in the allocation of seats in the DMK-led Democratic Progressive Alliance constituents.

All the constituents were firm that the Congress president, Sonia Gandhi should become the next Prime Minister of the country he said adding that all DMK men should work for the success of the alliance candidates in Tamil Nadu and Pondicherry.
