Jolt to BSP: Two MLAs resign protesting negligence Tuesday, February 10 2004 18:23 Hrs (IST) Lucknow:
In a jolt to the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in Uttar Pradesh ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, two party MLAs, Satyanarain and Madan Singh Gautam, today (Feb 10, 2004) resigned from the party, as well as the State Assembly.
While Satyanarain, BSP MLA from Beniganj in Hardoi district announced his resignation in the Assembly, Gautam, who represents Ajitmal in the disbanded Auraiya district, handed over his resignation to Speaker Kesri Nath Tripathi.
Later, the Speaker said he has received the resignations of both the MLAs.
Announcing his resignation in the House, Satyanarain said he was resigning in protest against alleged neglect of his constituency and "humiliation at the hands of BSP leaders".
He said he was not joining any party.
BSP legislature party leader Swami Prasad Maurya alleged that Satyanarain had been offered ministership by the ruling Samajwadi Party, a charge vehemently denied by the MLA.
Maurya also alleged that Gautam has resigned as the SP has threatened him with implicating him in false cases.
