Day 2 of road show: Sonia steps up tirade against BJP
Tuesday, February 10 2004 21:23 Hrs (IST)

Maharajganj: Sharpening her attack on the Vajpayee Government on the second day of her campaign trail in Eastern Uttar Pradesh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (Feb 10, 2004) dismissed as "bundle of lies", Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP's) campaign about the feel good factor in the country.

"The Vajpayee Government is propagating the feel good factor, which is nothing but a bundle of lies, to hide its failure on all fronts," she told reporters.

No section of society is happy with the policies pursued by the BJP-led Government, Gandhi said and exhorted people to dislodge it at the hustings.

Urging people to support Congress in the coming Lok Sabha polls, she said it was the only party that could ensure all round development of the country.

Gandhi, accompanied by Uttar Pradesh Congress Committee (UPCC) chief Jagadambika Pal, former Union Minister Sanjay Singh and Uttar Pradesh Congress Legislature Party leader Pramod Tewari, was accorded a warm welcome on her arrival in Maharajganj from Kushinagar on day two of her road show.

Buoyed by the people's response, Gandhi disembarked from her vehicle at several places and mingled with the crowd to enquire about their well being.

She caressed tiny-tots as women turned out in large number to greet her.

Earlier, Gandhi visited Ramkola, Kaptanganj and Partawal in Kushinagar district interacting with people and listening to their grievances.

Talking to people, she sought a first hand information on whether sugar mills in their areas were running and whether cane arrears had been cleared.

Addressing gatherings at several places, Gandhi continued her tirade against the Vajpayee Government charging it with betraying people by not fulfilling poll promises.

A large number of people, including women and children, lined up on both sides of the road to greet Gandhi as her entourage passed by.
