Telgi denies having paid Rs 22 lakh to Sharma Tuesday, February 10 2004 20:39 Hrs (IST) Bangalore:
In a new turn, prime accused in the multi-crore fake stamp paper scam Abdul Karim Telgi today (Feb 10, 2004) denied having paid Rs 22 lakh to former Mumbai police commissioner R S Sharma, dismissing as "wrong and fabricated" a Maharashtra Special Investigation Team (SIT) claim that he had admitted having made the payment.
"It is wrong and fabricated," Telgi told reporters outside the special court at Parappana Agrahara prisons on Bangalore outskirts where he is lodged.
Telgi's statement comes a day after the SIT told the special court in Pune that he had during a narco analysis test admitted having paid Rs 22 lakh to Sharma.
The SIT had made the submission to the Pune court while submitting reports of narco analysis test conducted on Telgi last month. The six-page report prepared by the Forensic Science Laboratory of Bangalore said Sharma was Telgi's good friend who helped him in the business to sell all his goods at Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed an application seeking permission to interrogate Telgi, the hearing on which was adjourned by the special judge A T Manoli to February 19.
The bail application of Telgi is coming up before the court on February 21.
An application by Karnataka's Special Investigation Team (STAMPIT) seeking permission to conduct narco analysis test on Telgi would come up before the court on February 13.
