No separate BJP manifesto; only 'vision document' Wednesday, February 11 2004 22:57 Hrs (IST) Lucknow:
Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today (Feb 11, 2004) said it was "unlikely" to have a separate manifesto for the Lok Sabha elections but would bring out a "vision document", in which the Ram temple and other such issues would find mention.
"NDA (National Democratic Alliance) will have a joint manifesto. A separate BJP manifesto is unlikely but the party will bring out a separate document in which the Ram temple and other such issues will find mention," party general secretary Pramod Mahajan told reporters.
"Till a grand temple is constructed at Ayodhya, the issue of Ram temple will continue to be an issue during elections directly or indirectly," he said in reply to a question.
All political parties were unanimous that the Ayodhya issue should be resolved either through mutual negotiation or through court, Mahajan said.
Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee has made several efforts to resolve the issue through dialogue, but unfortunately they all failed, he said. "Similar efforts will continue in future as well."
Replying to a question, Mahajan expressed "regrets" on the hardships faced by "Ramsevaks" during the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) programmes in Ayodhya due to security reasons.
