Explosion near IIT in Delhi; one injured

New Delhi: One person was injured and two vehicles were damaged when an explosion took place near Indian Institute of Technology flyover in South Delhi today (Feb 11, 2004), police said.

Police said initial information suggested that it was a crude explosive which went off smashing the window panes of a bus and a car that were passing by.

One person received injuries and has been shifted to hospital, police said.

They said splinters of the explosive material were being collected and investigation was on.

Following the explosion, panic marred the busy IIT junction as the police had cordoned off the entire road.

Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Ashok Chand and explosive experts, have rushed to the scene.
