Sikkim Govt recommends dissolution of Assembly
Wednesday, February 11 2004 12:59 Hrs (IST)

Gangtok: The Sikkim Democratic Front Government in Sikkim today (Feb 11, 2004) recommended dissolution of the State Assembly to pave the way for simultaneous holding of Assembly polls together with Parliamentary elections.

The decision was taken at a Cabinet meeting chaired by the Chief Minister Pawan Chamling this morning, according to official sources.

A Cabinet team led by the Chief Minister is leaving for Rongpu to apprise the Governor V Rama Rao of the Cabinet decision.

Chamling is expected to meet the Governor, who is away from the State capital, at 16.00 hrs (IST) today, the sources said.

If simultaneous polls are held in the State, then the Sikkim Assembly will be going to polls months before schedule, as the Chamling Government would complete its tenure in September this year.
