A senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer of Rajasthan cadre, who was arrested in Hyderabad for his alleged involvement in multi crore Telgi stamp scandal, has been suspended from service, an official spokesman said in Jaipur today (Feb 11, 2004).
Narasimha Rao, currently posted as superintendent of police (CID-SSB) at the State police headquarters, was suspended by the State Government last night after Andhra Pradesh chief secretary intimated his counterpart in Jaipur about his arrest by Special Investigation Team (SIT).
The IPS officer of 1989 batch was remanded to judicial custody till March 8 by first additional metropolitan sessions judge Jaganath Reddy.
Rao, who had returned to Rajasthan only seven months ago after remaining on deputation in Andhra Pradesh for five years, had been on leave since December 20, the spokesman said, adding the IPS official had gone on a 10-day leave initially but kept on extending it.
On his return from Hyderabad last year, he was posted as superintendent of police (welfare and planning) in police headquarters and was recently transferred to CID-SSB while remaining on leave.
In the past he served as superintendent of police in border districts of Barmer and Ganganagar, official sources said.
