4 militants killed in encounter with Army in Assam

Guwahati: Four militants - three from Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA) and one of Karbi National Force (KNF) - were killed in two separate encounters with the Army in Central Assam's Karbi Anglong and N C Hills districts today (Feb 12, 2004) and a large quantity of arms, ammunition and explosives recovered from them.

The KRA militants fired upon the troops of the Red Shield division when they were conducting combing operations at village Saijong where the ultras were reported to be holed up, defence sources said.

The Army personnel then fired back killing the three in the exchange of fire and recovered arms, ammunition and explosives from them.

A hardcore Karbi National Force 'captain' Ngamlet was killed in another encounter with the Red Shield men at Mahur village in N C Hills and an AK-56 rifle along with live cartridge were recovered from the spot.
