Guj police get DNA proof of Sajal's role in rape case Thursday, February 12 2004 20:11 Hrs (IST) Ahmedabad:
Gujarat police has obtained 'conclusive' scientific evidence about the involvement of prime accused Sajal Jain and his friend in the alleged New Year gang-rape case, after the DNA tests conducted by the state Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) proved positive.
"The DNA typing and matching tests conducted on blood samples of Sajal Jain and Sugam alias Monty Jaiswal with exhibits taken from the victim's frock match, which
conclusively proves their presence and involvement in the incident," Deputy Commissioner of Police S K Ghadvi said.
He said samples taken from the upholstery of the backseat of Jaiswal's car, those from the bed sheets of the Ashok Palace hotel (where the incident occurred) were also used to get an appropriate match during the tests.
Police said, the interim report had also mentioned that tests conducted on the victim's suicide note also matched with her previous handwritings, and thus eliminated speculation that the note was 'fabricated' as claimed by defence lawyers.
