Claimants appear before HC for Suraiyya's assets Thursday, February 12 2004 19:30 Hrs (IST) Mumbai:
A fortnight after the death of actress-singer Suraiyya, claimants to her Rs 50 crore real estate today (Feb 12, 2004) appeared before Mumbai High Court, which directed the Maharashtra administrator general M K Patil to file a list of movable and immovable properties owned by the deceased.
In an interesting twist to the case, Amee Piyush Shah, daughter of Suraiyya's solicitor friend Dhiman Thakker, staked her claim to the properties saying she was the adopted daughter of the actress and was gifted all the movable and immovable properties by 'Hibba' (transfer of property under Mohammedan law).
Hearing a notice of motion taken out by Shah, Justice S J Vajifdar asked the administrator general to file a list of properties of Suraiyya by February 16.
Another claimant to the property was her apartment located in Worli. The society staked its claim on six flats in its building belonging to the actress, as she had died interstate.
