CMD of NALCO booked on sexual harassment charges
Friday, February 13 2004 15:22 Hrs (IST)

Mumbai: Police has registered a case against the CMD (Chief Managing Director) of Bhubaneswar-based National Aluminium Corporation (NALCO) on charges of allegedly molesting a woman employee during his visit to Mumbai last week.

However, police yesterday (Feb 12, 2004) arrested NALCO Regional Manager Virender Singh, as a co-accused after the victim named him present in the hotel when the incident occurred.

According to a complaint by the victim, the CMD C Venkataramana during his visit to Mumbai on February 8, asked her to accompany him to his suite at a five-star hotel in suburban Sahar, Inspector in-charge of Sahar police station Sharad Marathe said.

Venkataramana asked his subordinate Singh to wait outside and asked her to follow him into the room, the woman stated in her complaint, adding she claimed Venkataramana made sexual advances towards her inside the room.

Singh was aware of the molestation apologising to the woman later but "expressed inability to protest against the boss", Marathe said.

Meanwhile, Marathe said Venkataramana has not been arrested as he is in Bhubaneshwar.

Singh will be produced before a Metropolitan Court this afternoon.
