Stamp scam: Suspended cop questioned by SIT
Friday, February 13 2004 14:10 Hrs (IST)

Hyderabad: Suspended Andhra Pradesh police official Ashwaq Ahmed Khan was being questioned by Special Investigation Team (SIT), for his alleged role in the multi-crore fake stamp racket.

Khan was picked up from his residence in Bahadurpura police line yesterday (Feb 12, 2004) and was being questioned about his role in the investigation, SIT sources said today (Feb 13, 2004).

However, SIT officials refused to divulge details.

Khan was posted as Sub-inspector (SI) in the Begumbazar police station in 1999, where the scam case was first registered and was suspended in September 2003.

Rayees Quadri, an accused in the scam and a close relative of kingpin Abdul Karim Telgi, had named Khan and some other police officials in his confession before the SIT.

Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Government has suspended DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) Satyanarayan Reddy and SI Madhu Mohan following their arrest in connection with the scam. The officials have been remanded to judicial custody.
